Easee One review

The Easee One is a dream of a smart charger, pairing solid Scandinavian hardware with a slick app for a great user experience.

It has a few unique features, including a cable lock letting you use it as a tethered or untethered charger, the ability to run three robots off one fuse, and an integrated eSIM, so you aren’t reliant on a home Wi-Fi connection.

Unlike many chargers, you also get a choice of access control. You can set charging schedules in the app, so the charger turns on between certain hours, and you can operate it via RFID tag control with the included Easee Key.

Features

We don't blame you if you're here for the Easee One's handsome good looks.

Easee is a Scandinavian company, and as we all know, the Scandinavian people love minimal, clean designs that combine functionality and beauty.

The Easee One stands out with a matte, geometric, angular body that catches the light in interesting ways. The profile angles towards the charge port, and the cable end is relatively flat, ensuring it doesn't stick out when plugged in.

  • Dimensions (mm): 256 x 193 x 106 (H x W x D)
  • Charging power: 1.4–7.4 kW (6A - 32A)
  • Earthing: Built-in
  • Connectivity: Built-in eSIM (4G, 2G, GPRS) and Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz b/g/n
  • Control: App and RFID
  • Cable length: 7.5m
  • Socket type: Tethered and untethered all-in-one
  • Unique features: Run 3 chargers on one fuse, lock cable into place.

ou can also set a maximum charging power in the Easee app, ensuring your home power supply isn't pushed too far.

For instance, you might want to set a lower maximum power if you have another energy-intensive device like an air source heat pump.

At 7.4kW, you'll get up to 30 miles of range per hour, or 28 miles at 7kW. If your house can only manage 16A, the maximum charging speed is 3.6kW.

The Easee One has an in-built eSIM for mobile internet and Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz b/g/n. Connecting to both ensures connectivity at all times.

The charger uses the strongest network, and when one source drops out, the other takes over. The eSIM provides free mobile internet access throughout the product's lifetime and eliminates the need to change SIMs.

The Easee One comes with a backplate with terminals, requiring little configuration out of the box other than sorting the parts.

There are four cable entries (for the cable that connects the charger to your RCD), with entries located in the rear of the device. Rear entry ensures that installations have no visible cables, keeping everything neat.

No earth rod or GARO/matte:e is required because it has open PEN conductor protection, simplifying installation and keeping costs down. It also has integrated type B RCD protection, which switches the unit off if overflow occurs.

  • If you want to charge more than one EV at any time, you can run up to three chargers on one fuse with power balanced between the robots.

The Easee Equalizer automatically balances power between the charging robots, rather than the traditional approach of a CT clamp.

  • The cable lock is unique to the Easee One, letting you permanently attach your charging cable to the unit in the Easee app.

The Easee app is one of the best in the business, with a slick interface, logical controls and all the features you need for easy charging.

Here are the functions you can do in the app:

  • Lock the cable
  • Set access controls
  • Create schedules
  • See charger status
  • Adjust charger power
  • Monitor power distribution
  • View charging session data

The Easee development team regularly updates the app, and it’s one of the best out there in terms of support, stability and features.

The front of the Easee One houses an LED status light bar that offers a simple at-a-glance view of the charger's status. It takes some getting used to because there are twelve possible light modes, but you will mostly see four:

  • Solid white, a third full -- standby mode
  • Solid white full -- car connected
  • Pulsating white -- charging
  • Blue pulsating -- smart charging in progress
