Ohme home pro

he Ohme Home Pro is proof that the good things come in small packages,

It has unique features, like vehicle API support, the ability to set kWh price caps (brilliant if you have a dual-rate tariff) and a 3G/4G SIM for connectivity.

The big draw of the Ohme Home Pro is the combination of a colour display and control panel in a compact body. It gives you control over charging, like setting the desired charge level, charge time, and charging instantly with MAX charge.

Features

the Ohme Home Pro is a petite smart charger that barely sticks out from the wall. It looks great with its all-black finish and comes with a 5m cable, with a longer 8m cable available optionally.

The small profile and black case help the Ohme Home Pro blend in, and it feels like a high-quality piece of kit with an ABS case and polycarbonate front cover.

Ohme is kind enough to include a wall holster/cable tidy with the charger, giving you somewhere to loop the cable and stow the charger head. It looks great on the wall, and the display dims when not in use.

Speaking of the display, this is the charger’s best feature! It lets you control charging sessions at the charger, including time to target, percentage target and charging mode. It’s a feature we wish all home chargers had.

The charger is bottom entry only (for the cable that runs to the RCD), so in outdoor installations, the cable is visible before it goes through the wall. However, this isn’t a problem because it can run just a centimetre below.

The Ohme Home Pro charges at speeds up to 7.4kW (approximately 30 miles of range per hour) on a 32A circuit or up to 3.6kW on a 16A circuit.

It has dynamic load balancing via an included CT clamp, automatically adjusting the load to your property to prevent blown fuses.

Instead of Wi-Fi, the Ohme Home Pro does connectivity differently, relying exclusively on a 3G/4G mobile network provided by a SIM card.

Ohme includes a three-year SIM with the charger (after which you can take out a rolling SIM card with any mobile network). The Ohme SIM automatically connects to Three, EE, O2 or Vodafone (whichever is strongest).

Thanks to in-built earthing, the Ohme doesn’t need an earth rod, and it doesn’t need an upstream RCD because it has an internal RCD Type-A.

Ohme includes the CT clamp and wago connectors in the package, and the circuit board and modules are pre-configured to make installation simple.

  • kWh price capping is a unique feature of the Ohme Home Pro, letting you guarantee the cheapest possible rate on your energy tariff. If you have a dual-rate tariff like Economy 7 or an EV tariff, this feature is perfect.

  • The Ohme Home Pro has API support for some manufacturers, letting it tap into your vehicle’s state of charge to determine how much charge you need.

API support connects your vehicle to the charger and shares charging information with your vehicle. The benefit is smarter features, like letting the charger work out the correct percentage to add without you specifying it.

The Ohme app is one of the best, letting you set charging schedules, set kWh price caps, track cost per mile and much more.

Here’s a list of what it lets you do:

  • Control charging sessions (start, pause, stop)
  • Create lock schedules to lockout your charger
  • Make charging schedules
  • Set charging targets (including charge level by time)
  • Set kWh price caps, so you get the cheapest rates
  • Get a breakdown of charging costs (including estimated total savings when using a dual-rate tariff such as Octopus Go)
  • See new and historical charging data
  • Monitor your green score, including CO2 consumption per mile

We love the app’s clean, modern interface and how fast data is updated (you can expect charging data to be refreshed every few minutes).

The Ohme Home Pro’s display and control panel make life so much easier when you want to tinker with settings and charging sessions.

Menus are controlled via three touch-sensitive buttons, and pressing any of the buttons wakes up the display. When plugged into your vehicle, you can see the vehicle charge level, estimated time to target and the current charging speed.

You can also set the charging mode (e.g., Max charge, Eco charge, Smart charge) and start, pause and stop charging sessions quickly.

In addition to the display, there are two LED status indicator bars. Green means active charging, blue means delayed charging, flashing green means active charging but no power, and red means error.
