Easee One review

The Zaptec Go is a beautiful, Socketed smart charger suitable for single and three-phase installations From 7kW up to 22kW.

We can’t think of another charger with this much punch for the size, and it’s all wrapped up in a beautiful two-tone case in six colours.

Zaptec has also thrown in handy features like RFID tag/card control, Bluetooth connectivity and 4G (in addition to Wi-Fi for seamless connectivity).

It all adds up to create one of the best small chargers money can buy.

Features

The Zaptec Go is a small, beautifully crafted charger. The Scandinavian design is evident in the minimalist body, making the Zaptec Go perfect for external installations. It's socketed (untethered) and available in six colours, including a very fetching Moss Green.

The front of the charger has an LED status ring directly above the socket, perfectly sized to be symmetrical. There are no buttons or controls – everything is handled via the Zaptec app, or you can use an RFID to activate charging.

  • Dimensions (mm): 242 x 180 X 75 MM (H x W x D)
  • Charging power: 7.4kW (32A) single-phase, up to 22kW three-phase
  • Earthing: Built-in
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth
  • Control: Mobile app and online portal
  • Socket type: Untethered with a cable lock
  • Unique features: Permanent cable lock, RFID, Eco Mode.
  •

Charging speeds are as follows:

  • 7.4kW at 32A (single-phase)
  • 12.7kW at 32A three-phase (IT networks)
  • 22kW at 32A three-phase (TN networks)

The Zaptec Go has Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) to connect to your internet router and 4G LTE-M, which is free for the charger's lifetime. Both networks require a robust and stable connection for smart features to work.

It also has RFID/NFC for contactless charging (the charger activates when a compatible tag is scanned) and Bluetooth for activating charging sessions.

No earth rod or GARO/matte:e is needed because the Zaptec Go has an integrated RDC-DD 6mA. Each charger unit needs to connect to a 30mA Type A RCD with a circuit breaker, rated for a maximum of 40A.

Eco Mode taps into cheap electricity rates using historical market data provided by Nord Pool. All you do is plug in your car, activate Eco Mode, and the Zaptec Go charges your car when electricity is cheapest.

Think of it as an automated schedule mode; the charger will create an intelligent schedule based on its data. However, it requires a dynamic/variable tariff to work (if you pay a single rate per kWh, you will always pay that rate).

he Zaptec app is easy to use with a start/stop charging toggle, charger status indication, access controls and charging history.

You can't make charging schedules (the Zaptec Go is a plug and play charger), but it does have an Eco Mode that uses historical price data from Nord Pool to charge at cheaper times (this is only useful if you have a dual-rate tariff).

In Eco Mode, you can also set your departure time and minimum energy (kWh) required to control how much energy is added to the battery.

The app works fine as a simple control interface, letting you add and remove RFID tags, lock/unlock the cable, and monitor charging sessions across multiple units.

In addition to the mobile app, you also have the Zaptec Portal, which lets you monitor all chargers in real-time and view a breakdown of energy consumption.

The Zaptec Go's handy LED ring provides an at-a-glance status indication, and there are seven possible light combinations:

  • White – standby
  • Blue – charging active
  • Green – eco mode
  • Yellow – waiting for RFID tag
  • Red – error
  • Orange – charger ready for configuration
  • Purple – charger updating
